Glass & Metal Sculpture – Summer Youth Class (Ages 12–18)
Combine copper metal, and molten glass in this exciting one-day workshop! In this hands-on class, students will design and create a metal “cage” structure that becomes the framework for a unique glass sculpture.
Students will begin by shaping and assembling a metal form that will act as the outer structure of their piece. Once the cage is complete, they’ll move to the hot shop where molten glass is gathered from the furnace and carefully blown into the metal framework. As the glass expands, it fills and interacts with the metal structure, creating a dynamic, one-of-a-kind sculptural form.
This process introduces students to both metalworking and glassblowing while exploring how these two materials work together in contemporary sculpture. Throughout the workshop, students will work under the guidance of experienced instructors who will demonstrate techniques and ensure a safe and supportive studio environment.
The result is a striking sculpture that captures the energy of both materials and the creativity of the student who made it.
Ages: 12–18. No experience required. All materials provided.
