Spin Casting Bowl – Summer Youth Class (Ages 12–18)

Discover the exciting process of creating glass art using centrifugal force! In this hands-on summer class, students will learn the dynamic technique of spin casting while working together as a team to create stunning glass bowls.

Students will begin by shaping a sand mold, pressing patterns and textures into the surface to design a custom, one-use mold. Once the mold is ready, molten glass is carefully ladled into it. Then comes the thrilling part—spinning the mold. As it rotates, centrifugal force pushes the glass outward, shaping it as it cools and solidifies.

Spin casting is a collaborative process, and students will take part in each step—designing the mold, working together during the pour, and helping spin the mold as the glass forms its final shape. The result is a beautiful bowl featuring unique textures and patterns created during the process.

This class offers a fun and memorable introduction to working with molten glass while emphasizing teamwork, creativity, and the science behind glassmaking.
